The event

The event took place on 27 June, 2023 in Zagging, Austria. It attracted approximately 3,000 agricultural stakeholders, consisting mainly of farmers and representatives from industry.

The participants were able to inspect a wide variety of innovations in the field of agricultural machinery, with a focus on robotics and new fertiliser products.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AGRANA Starch, Josef Eisenschenk, and AGRANA Chief Technical Officer, Norbert Harringer, opened the event with a warm welcome to the audience giving a brief explanation of the programme.

Fertiliser innovations

Innovations in sugar beet growing, including novel fertilisers, were the focus of the event. Farmers particularly were interested in drought solutions for plants due to crops having been adversely affected due to an extended period of dry weather experienced in Austria at the beginning of 2023.

The powerful capabilities of the SUSFERT fertilisers, namely the combination of sustainable, bio-based components with the carrier of Nutrigels as a means for the slow release of nutrients and humidity triggered high interest from the audience.

SUSKIT demonstration of nine fertilisers

SUSKIT, a demonstration set of nine fertilisers developed on SUSFERT, were well received. Two basil plant were demonstrated on the stand – one treated with the SUSFERT fertiliser prototype and Nutrigels, and the other one was left untreated.

Guests at the event were able to see the difference that SUSFERT makes for basil plants. The SUSFERT-treated plant was still striving while the reference plant had already begun to show signs of water deficiency. At that point, both plants had not been watered for 21 days.
